Colombian-born Dairo Vargas’ passion for art began at an early age. Inspiration and encouragement nurtured his confidence and a talented, self-taught, painter emerged.
Since accepting his first commission at 16, his style - mostly abstract and landscape – has become bolder and increasingly explorative.
He is passionate about the natural world and its relationship to the built environment and his work is very much a reflection of this.
Dairo delights in the subtle changes of the sky, specifically its ephemeral, almost spiritual quality combined with the evocativeness of light.
‘Those fleeting moments where the beauty and grandeur of a scene takes your breath away inspire much of my painting’ he says.
His work as a professional graphic designer has a strong influence on the development of his abstract work. The hot, fluid colour and simple lines in his abstract pieces contrast dramatically with the moody brushstrokes characteristic of his landscape work.
He owes thanks to the brilliant Colombian art teacher, Guillermo Duarte, for his early inspiration and guidance but draws from the impressionist movement while exhibiting the expressionist futurism of Bauhaus artists such as Klee and Kandinsky.
Having experimented extensively with various media, including sculpture and drawing, he is currently working with acrylics finding their textures particularly well suited to his subject matter.
Dairo graduated from Kensington and Chelsea college of Art in 2008 and regularly exhibits in colleges, galleries and companies in Colombia and Britain. |
